The Board of Directors of Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), led by its Chairman, James Agalga, has undertaken a working visit to inspect progress on major infrastructure projects, including the Hajj Village construction site at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
During the visit, Director of Projects, Engineering and Construction, Reverend Solomon Adjaso Abijah, briefed the Board on the scope of work.
He explained that the multipurpose Hajj Village facility would comprise a residential block, terminal building, mosque, modern tennis court and dedicated Hajj offices.

The project will also include an enhanced commercial area with shops, restaurants, an event centre and recreational spaces designed to generate additional non-aeronautical revenue for GACL.
Rev. Abijah indicated that the project is currently about 55 per cent complete and is expected to be finalised by the end of 2026.

He noted that once completed, the facility would provide a more dignified and comfortable environment for pilgrims ahead of their departure to Saudi Arabia.
James Agalga commended the contractors for the steady progress of work, stating that the project forms part of the President’s broader vision of ensuring a safe and conducive environment for pilgrims travelling to Mecca.

He assured that the Board would continue to work closely with contractors to ensure the Hajj Village becomes operational as scheduled.
The Board also inspected the runway overlay works and the new GACL head office building being constructed by Amandi Holdings at KIA.

Addressing the media, Managing Director of GACL, Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, explained that the runway had not undergone major rehabilitation in nearly 30 years.
She said the project includes expanding the runway width from 60 metres to 75 metres, undertaking a full overlay and installing a modern LED Approach Guidance Lighting system.
Contractors further assured the Board that the new head office building is on course for completion in July 2027.
