The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Major General William Agyapong, has approved the promotion of two personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces in recognition of their outstanding service and achievements.

Speaking at the End of Year West Africa Social Activity (WASSA) 2025 held at the Burma Camp in Accra, the CDS announced the promotions while highlighting notable contributions by individuals and units within the Armed Forces.

Maj Gen Agyapong praised Able Seaman Class 1 Akutor Precious for her self-initiated three-kilometre swim to raise funds for a Ghana Armed Forces school for children with special needs project.

“Through this noble effort, she successfully raised an amount of GH₵18,000." He added that the initiative had gone beyond fundraising, as it had attracted additional support from a philanthropist, Mr Kofi Appiah, who has committed to assisting with the construction of the school.

The CDS also commended Lance Corporal Lartey Jerry Nii for making the Armed Forces proud by emerging victorious in a super light boxing bout against an opponent from the Democratic Republic of Congo at a competition organised by Legacy Rise Sports.

According to Major General Agyapong, the achievement reflected “discipline, resilience, and the fighting spirit for which the Ghana Armed Forces is noted for.”

In recognition of the individual outstanding efforts of the two personnel, he announced their elevation to higher ranks.

“I have approved their promotions to the next higher ranks of Leading Seaman and Corporal, respectively,” the CDS stated on Friday, January 23, adding that both officers would be invited in due course for a short promotion ceremony.

During the event, Major General Agyapong also acknowledged the broader achievements of the Ghana Armed Forces, including the production of the military’s first major tactical drone by the Army Signal Training School.

“Through their firm exploits, the school has produced its first major tactical drone with an operational endurance of between three to four hours,” he said, noting that the drones had “accounted for many of our recent successes during our duties on Operation Madaburi in the Bawku enclave.”

"Congratulations to them, and may their actions inspire all of us to continue to serve with dedication and honor," he added.
