A soldier, who allegedly assaulted a female traffic warden at the Madina Ritz Junction a couple of weeks ago is to face full disciplinary action by the Ghana Armed Forces, after he was found guilty of the act. The Ghana Armed Forces in a statement signed by Col. Mbawine Atintande, Public Affairs Director of the Ghana Armed Forces, condemned the bahaviour of Sergeant Fredrick Afari of the Recce Regiment in Accra saying, it “takes serious exception to such misconduct,” although he has “rendered an unqualified apology to the traffic warden”. The Sgt. allegedly slapped Vanesa Adabla of the Community Police Unit (CPU), after he was ordered to stop to allow vehicles from the opposite direction to move. When she signaled the soldier to move, he was still stationary compelling her to get closer to the car to question him. Sgt. Afari moved to a distance, parked his car and approached the CPU official and asked her why she was shouting at him. Vanesa asked the soldier to disclose his identity and this did not go down well with the soldier who allegedly slapped her twice. Sgt. Afari held the collar of her shirt, jerked her and pushed her to the ground. He then tried slapping her for the third time when policemen on duty arrested him and sent him to the Madina Police Station. “GAF therefore condemns the regrettable incident and wishes to assure the public that appropriate action will be taken against him and any soldier who misconducts him or herself in a similar fashion”.
