The West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo) on Friday said it has successfully delivered gas to Ghana and is waiting for the Volta River Authority (VRA) to take it into its Takoradi Thermal Power Plant.
A statement signed by Harriet Wereko-Brobby, Managing Director- Corporate Affairs announced this in reaction to a recent media reports that gas from the West African Gas Pipeline (WAPC) will be available in 2010.
“WAPCo, owner and operator of the West African Gas Pipeline has been ready since December 14, 2008 to supply the VRA with enough gas to run one turbine at the moment.”
It said the next step is for VRA to commence its commissioning processes in order to take the gas, which is planned for 2009 and not 2010.
The statement said construction work at the Takoradi Regulating and Metering (R&M) station has been completed and ready to deliver gas to VRA.
“We are currently working to complete outstanding work on our Compressor Station at Lagos Beach, in Nigeria and Regulating and Metering stations in Tema, Cotonou and Lome by the end of 2009,” it added.
The release stated that commissioning of the Compressor and other R&M stations are scheduled to take approximately two months after mechanical completion at which point WAPCo will be in the position to transport higher volumes of gas to its foundation customers.
