SINOPEC, the Chinese construction company working on the gas processing plant says the gas infrastructure project will be completed by April this year.

This will enable gas to be fired from the Jubilee fields through to the Aboadze Thermal plant.

The gas project is regarded as a key component in Ghana's economic outlook as the country looks forward to producing electricity at a relatively cheaper cost.

On a visit to the project site in November last year, contractors at the site told President John Mahama 75% of work was completed. They projected April 2014, deadline for the completion of the project.

The contractors seem to be well on track to completing the project.

Joy FM's Western Region correspondent, Kweku Owusu Peprah reports that the project will reach its mechanical completion by April.

He was part of the delegation of Energy Minister, Emmanuel Kofi Armah-Buah, that paid a visit to the project site at Atuabo, Friday.

According to him, the minister's visit is to acquaint himself with the extent of work done by the contractors.

He reported the contractors as saying the infrastructure will be ready by April to allow gas to be fired into the Aboadze Thermal plant.
