Chief of Gbetsile, Nii Teye Kojo Sune I as part of efforts to mitigate plight of the vulnerable in the face of the coronavirus lockdown has donated bags of rice, sanitizers and an undisclosed amount of cash to 150 aged in his community.

The aged were also given bottles of oil and bags of sachet water.

The items worth about GH¢10,000.00 are expected to go a long way to help these elderly persons who cannot step out as the lockdown remains in effect.

The gesture according to the chief, is a way of extending support to members of society.  

“With support from the Christian and Muslim communities, we are donating to the aged. The pandemic is having a toll on us all especially the aged hence this gesture,” he said.

Nii Teye Kojo Sune I believes government alone cannot shoulder the responsibilities during the partial lockdown.

“I want to use this opportunity to ask individuals who can help to play their role in supporting the vulnerable in society because we are not in normal times,” he pleaded.

Gbetsile, located within the Kpone-Katamanso municipality is one of the areas affected by a partial lockdown to stem the spread of Covid-19, the respiratory illness caused by coronavirus.

He encouraged residents to stay indoors, adhere to precautionary measures as a means to avoid contraction and further spread of the virus.

The chief also appealed to government to intensify education on Ccovid-19 to help achieve its intended purpose.

One of the beneficiaries, Fortune Necku asked for God’s blessings for the chief and those who made this possible at this crucial moment.

She lauded the chief for having issues of the aged at heart and asked that measures are put in place to ensure the aged are always in good health.

Meanwhile, Gbetsile-US Residents Association Chair, Ex-WO1 Bernard Sisu believes the issue of social distancing remains very important for them.

“We keep educating residents on the need to observe social distancing, sanitizer usage, frequent handwashing among other means of minimizing possible spread of Covid-19.

Assemblyman for Gbetsile Electoral Area, Abdul Rahim Yahaya encouraged well-to-do residents to come on board to help the vulnerable in society.
