A 29-year-old electronic collector has been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly stealing GH¢490,400 belonging to GCB Bank.
Samuel Owusu, a contract staff of the bank, has been charged with stealing and has pleaded not guilty.
The prosecution, led by Inspector Priscilla Avorgah, told the court that the complainant is the Manager of Security and Fraud Investigation at GCB Bank Plc, while Owusu was stationed at the bank’s Abossey Okai branch in Accra.
Inspector Avorgah said Owusu, was responsible for collecting money from customers and depositing it into their respective accounts using a dedicated phone assigned to him.
She said a preliminary audit conducted on October 29, 2025, revealed that GH¢490,400 had been stolen from several customer accounts.
The court heard that Owusu was confronted by the complainant, the bank manager, and his supervisor, during which he admitted stealing the money between February and October 2025.
According to the prosecution, Owusu claimed he invested the stolen funds in an online trading platform known as “qadatralife.com” in hopes of making a profit.
He was subsequently arrested and taken to the police station to assist with investigations.
In his caution statement, Owusu stated that he did not steal the entire amount at once but appropriated the funds gradually by failing to deposit monies collected from customers into their accounts.
