Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) says its operational efficiency has only been reinforced with the growing competition in the banking industry. The country’s largest indigenous financial institution controls a bigger share of the banking populace, taking advantage of its wide nationwide branch network.GCB is however faced with intense competition in product innovation and customer service delivery from the new banks. But Public Relations Manager of the Bank, Nana John Duncan told Luv Biz Report GCB is not threatened by the competition.“Competition is always good. Competition brings out the best in any industry. So I’ll not say that we are threatened but I’ll say that competition from new banks will help us also to be more competitive. We have been in the business far longer…long before they (new banks) came and so there is nothing that they’re doing that we do not know,” he stated.Nana Duncan says the bank is constantly improving on its service delivery as well as introducing new products to retain and rope in more customers.“We believe that in 2012, we’ll deepen our performance to ensure that our customers are happier”, he added.Meanwhile, Nana Duncan has been producing official documents to disprove assertions of defaulting in payment of rent to the Ejisu-Juaben Municipal Assembly.Municipal Chief Executive, Afrifa Yamoah Ponko, also claimed that GCB had refused to renew the tenancy agreement on the property it is occupying. The bank has denied the claims.Nana Duncan is hoping negotiations would sail through for the outright purchase of the property, which GCB has occupied since 1964.
