GCB Bank Limited in partnership with Community Uplift Ghana, a Non-governmental organisation (NGO) has organised a free eye screening exercise for hundreds of people in Kotobabi and its surrounding areas in Accra.
The exercise drew a large number of people from the community who were diagnosed with various eye defects.
Free medication and glasses were provided to those with minor eye conditions while those with serious defects were referred to the hospital.
The Bank provided financial assistance of GH¢25,000.00 as part of its corporate social responsibility.
Selected staff of the Bank from the Accra New Town, Accra North, Nima, and Abelenkpe branches and 37 Military Hospital agency of the Bank joined the staff of the NGO as volunteers in conducting basic eye tests.
The staff also took advantage of the presence of the patrons to educate them on saving and investing for their future.
Some of them opened accounts with the Bank while others commended GCB for funding the eye screening.
Speaking during the exercise, Mr Emmanuel Kojo Kwarteng of the Corporate Affairs Department of the Bank, said GCB has prioritised health under its corporate social responsibility programme.
He said the Bank last year funded a similar exercise at Nima and Maamobi in Accra under which hundreds of people examined and treated for their eye defects.
Mr Kwarteng lauded the Management and staff of the Bank for joining the volunteers to organise charity work.
Mr. Franklin Mensah, the founder of the NGO said the initiative was taken to organise the outreach programme to provide the residents free access to quality eye screening and treatment.
Also, he said the free medical exercise provided the people with an opportunity to get better medical attention.
He said the aim of the NGO is to give back to society in different ways, thus the free eye screening which is part of their yearly programme.
