Addressing a mini durbar at the GCTU campus on Friday, 3rd September 2021, Prof. Ohene Afoakwa said the school is committed to promoting sports within the educational circles and is fully supportive of any initiative aimed at achieving such objectives.
He believes the provision of sports infrastructure on the campus is instrumental to harnessing talents and catapulting the nation into regaining its status as a sporting giant in the country.
He also pointed out that the construction of the AstroTurf falls in line with management’s vision to harness the sports potentials of students and encouraged individuals with the talents to make GCTU a learning institution of choice.
He also revealed other infrastructural projects in the pipeline.
“There has been so much thought and disagreement about the completion of this project but immediately I came in and said this project must be done so we set our heart to it and put the necessary funds to it and today it has been completed. My students are my first priority and their needs are very important to me. There are a lot of other projects to be done and we are going to make sure of their completion.”
Prof Ohene Afoakwa emphasized the second and third phases of the project saying “I proposed in the next two years the whole project will be completed. The school is going to be very busy because we are going to transform the whole campus into a beautiful Alma Mater that you will be proud of”.
“In a few years we are going to transform the school to look like Las Vegas with high-rise buildings on campus in a few years. So we are here to work for you and the republic of Ghana to develop this institution”, he added.
The sports complex, according to Prof. Ohene Afoakwa, was constructed by the Wembley Sports Construction Company Ltd at a cost of GH¢40.000
