Only 38 women were nominated to become Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies Chief Executives (MMDCEs) out of the 260 appointed by President Akufo-Addo, representing 14.62%.
In contrast, 222 men were nominated to serve in the same capacity, representing 85.38%.
Of the six Metropolitan Chief Executives nominated, one woman was appointed as against five men.
Elizabeth Sackey has been appointed as the Mayor of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly; if approved, she will take over from Mohammed Adjei Sowah.
Earlier on Sunday, his supporters massed up in James Town to protest that he was not renominated to serve.
The other five are all men.
Yohane Armah Ashitey was nominated as Mayor for the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), Salifu Suley for Tamale Metro and Ernest Arthur for Cape Coast Metro.
The others are Sam Pyne for the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and Abdul-Mumin Issah for the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly.
Former Kumbungu MP, Ras Mubarak, took to his Facebook page to complain about the low number of women and youth who were nominated as Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).
"Youth & Women woefully underrepresented in the appointment of MMDCES."
This number compares to 26% of women who were appointed to serve as Deputy Ministers.
The foundation law for selecting MMDCEs is Article 243 (1) of the 1992 Constitution, which states that "There shall be a District Chief Executive for every district who shall be appointed by the President with the prior approval of not less than two-thirds majority of members of the Assembly present and voting at the meeting”.
