Parliament has unanimously approved Justice Georgina Wood as the first female Chief Justice in Ghana’s history.

Members reminded Justice Wood to adhere to her promise to deal ruthlessly with corruption which has plagued the Service for long.
Justice Wood was vetted on Thursday and promised to fight corruption in the Judiciary.
She said: “It is difficult to erase perception of corruption in the judiciary…I will begin by building a culture of integrity. That is bothering and you cannot build it overnight.”
A large number of people mostly women turned up at her vetting which lasted for nearly two hours.
Justice Wood said motivation and better remuneration for staff will be given serious attention. She promised to lead by example.
Justice Wood was born on June 8, 1947. She attended Bishop’s Girls and Methodist Schools.
She had her LLB (Hons) from the University of Ghana, Legon in 1970 after completing Wesley Girls High School, Cape Coast in 1966.
