The Ghana Armed forces has commenced an anti-terrorism operation code-named Eagle Claws in the Upper West Region.
The four-day joint training is aimed at training and preparing security personnel of Operation Conquered Fist on their assigned task and test the skills of troops in air mobile operations with the Ghana Air Force.
The exercise is hosted by the Ghana Armed Forces in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana Immigration Service, the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority and the Bureau of National Investigations.
The troupes underwent a joint military mission at some border towns along the Ghana-Togo and Ghana-Burkina Faso borders in the Upper East and Upper West regions respectively.
They also embarked on enforcement of camp drills and deliberate vehicle checkpoints using sniffer dogs.
The director, Army operations, Colonel William Nii Nortey in an exclusive interview with JoyNews stated that for them in the training is the cornerstone of readiness explaining it is the surest way of keeping the territorial integrity of the country intact.
The exercise is also to test the skills of troops in airmobile operations with the Ghana Air Force.
Wing commander David Nkansah is the director of air operations at the Ghana air force and he threw more light on the exercise.
Operation Conquered Fist was recently launched to deal with terrorist activities in the Northern Sector of the country.
To this end, the exercise will among other things, support the Command and Staff of the operation to regularize their Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Contingency Plans for the operation.
