Consistent with Ghana Athletics Association's (GAA) current policy of providing in-service professional development opportunities for active coaches, Coach Christopher Darko-Amankrah left Accra on Sunday 3rd November, 2013 for South Korea to attend a three-week coaching course and high performance training seminar in Seoul, South Korea.
The seminar and coaching course is sponsored by the Korea Association of Athletics Federations (KAAF) in partnership with the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).
Upon request from KAAF, GAA sent a list of active coaches for consideration as potential coaching clinic participants. KAAF confirmed selection of Mr. Amankrah on September 25.
The Ghana Revenue Authority Officer has a rich track record in athletics having worked more than 20 years in the field as an athlete and a coach.
He won a bronze medal at the West-African Senior Championships in Cotonou, Benin, 2008 before undertaking a four month training tour by Enfield and Haringay athletic club in the U.K. after retirement.
He currently coaches 17-year old prospect, Abraham Seneke, who has jumped a PB of 7.03m and 14.50m respectively in the long and triple jump events. He also guided Salamatu Musa to qualify for the 2012 African Seniors Championship.
He is expected to bring his new training experience to bear on the country’s athletes especially in the lead up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. He has already lined up a training programme for long jumper Abraham Seneke ahead of his departure for the course
