The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has with immediate effect banned the use of sachet water during League matches at the various stadia.
A statement signed by Mr Kweku Ampim-Darko, Deputy General Secretary/Technical of the GFA said the ban by the GFA was due to the unscrupulous behavior of some fans who throw sachet water at match officials and opposing teams at the least provocation.
It added that, empty sachets also litter the field after matches hence the decision to impose the ban on its use by clubs and their followers.
The ban is likely to meet with great resistance as football fans will now have to devise new ways of carrying water to football matches.
Football games last no less than an hour-and-half, but fans must spend usually two hours or more at the stadia, necessitating access to drinking water in the stands, while many shun bottled mineral water for its relative high cost.
