President John Dramani Mahama has provided engineering equipment and supplies to the Jamaican Defence Force to aid ongoing recovery and reconstruction following Hurricane Melissa.
The items were handed over to Jamaica’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Kamina Johnson Smith, by a Ghanaian delegation led by Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa on Sunday, January 25.
According to a statement posted on the Ghana Armed Forces’ Facebook page on Monday, January 26, the visit allowed the delegation to review reconstruction progress, receive updates on operations, and assess the welfare of Ghanaian troops engaged in the multinational humanitarian mission.

During the visit, the delegation toured project sites where Ghanaian engineering personnel are actively rebuilding homes and restoring infrastructure for affected communities.
Both Ghanaian and Jamaican ministers lauded the teams for their professionalism and dedication, highlighting the collaboration between Ghana, Jamaica, and Guyana as a demonstration of regional solidarity and commitment to humanitarian assistance.

Colonel Emmanuel Asia, Commander of the Ghana Engineering Reconstruction Team, briefed the delegation on progress, challenges faced, and plans for the next phase of the reconstruction exercise.

The Ghanaian delegation also included Deputy Minister for Defence Ernest Brogya Genfi, Chief of the Army Staff Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, and Special Envoy to the Caribbean Region Kwasi Kyei Darkwah.
