Ghana and the Federal Republic of Germany have pledged to strengthen and deepen their economic co-operation.
This followed separate bilateral talks held between President John Agyekum Kufuor and German Foreign Minister, Dr Frank-Walter Steimmeier and German International Development and Co-operation Minister, Madam Wieczoreh Zeul on the sidelines of the G-8 Summit in the Baltic seaside resort of Heiligendamm.
Energy, health education and micro-credit were the key areas of focus.
Mr Andrew Awuni, Press Secretary to President Kufuor, said the discussions went very well and that Ghana would be making formal request to Germany for financial and technical support in the area of renewable energy.
He said both German Ministers applauded Ghana´s democracy and good governance, something, they said made it easier for the
country to benefit from German Government’s development assistance.
President Kufuor in his response said the face of politics in Africa was fast changing for the better with the rule of law, good governance and multi-party democracy taking firm root.
He said it was, however, important that the rest of the world accepted to stand by the Continent and give it the needed push.
Mr. Awuni said President Kufuor and the two Ministers also reviewed the situation in trouble spots of the Continent and resolved to
co-operate to help bring peace and security to the people in those areas.
