The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has issued an alert following the detection of an outbreak of Dengue Fever in the Eastern Region.
This announcement comes after the national surveillance system identified unusual clinical malaria cases in several districts that did not respond to standard antimalarial treatments.
Subsequently, these cases were managed as acute febrile illnesses and were confirmed as Dengue Fever by the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR).
In a statement issued on Sunday, July 14, the Service revealed that nine cases have been confirmed.
“Following that, a team from the national level made up of entomologists and epidemiologists have joined the regional team to undertake a detailed outbreak investigation.
The GHS further directed all Regional Directors of Health Service and chief executives of Teaching Hospitals to disseminate this alert to all health workers within their regions, districts, and hospitals, including mission and private facilities.
This measure is intended to enhance surveillance of Dengue Fever and ensure that all clinical malaria cases undergo laboratory confirmation.
