Government Sunday morning held a ceremony at the Tema Port to officially welcome the Karpower barge to Ghana.
Speaking at the welcoming ceremony, Power Minister, Dr. Kwabena Donkor said there would be a lot of work to be done to connect the barge to the national grid.
“There will be a lot of things to be done connecting the power barge to the national grid and also completing some paperwork,” he said.
The Karpower barge is an emergency power expected to add 225 MW of power to the national grid to help address the country’s energy crisis.
After several months of anticipation, Joy News’ Israel Laryea reported that the ship carrying the power barge arrived at the Tema port, Saturday November 26.
The Power Minister together with his colleague from the Petroleum Ministry and other government officials officially received the barge.
Avoiding the provision of deadlines, the Power Minister and his Deputy, John Jinapor have refused to say when the barge will start producing electricity.
According to Dr Kwabena Donkor, the barge will be commissioned by President John Dramani Mahama when all the connections have been made.
