The Minister for Women and Children’s Affairs, Hajia Alima Mahama has sharply criticized the international media for portraying Ghana as a hub for child trafficking in Africa.According to her the phenomenon of child trafficking in Ghana is often exaggerated in the Western Media creating the impression that the country endorses slavery.Last week 25 trafficked Ghanaian children were reunited with their parents at Ekumpoano, a fishing community in the Central region by the International Organization for Migration.But Hajia Mahama said child trafficking in Ghana must be understood within the cultural context of the people.“Every country has their social problems. In other countries they have homeless people. ..If people are feeling guilty of slave trade in the past they shouldn’t share that guilt with us because we are not doing slave trade in Ghana,” she stated.
