Ghanaian lightweight boxer Albert Mensah is on the verge of making history as the first boxer to win a prestigious WBC title some 14 years after legend Azumah Nelson lost his WBC super featherweight title.
Mensah who currently holds the relatively unknown WPBF title will challenge undisputed champion Devon Alexander in the US on January 29.
Mensah landed this big bout after Alexander’s original opponent, Timothy Bradley pulled out of the bout. Albert Mensah the Terano is trained by former African champion Napolen Tagoe who lost an opportunity to win a WBC title in 1999.
He told Joy Sports that he wants to use his boxer to correct his past mistakes and win the laurels that eluded him a decade ago in Germany.
Mr Terano said Albert was training very hard and was well conditioned to annex the belt.
