Ghana and Palestine on Thursday expressed their commitment for lasting peace in the Middle East.
They also reaffirmed the need for respect for inalienable human rights based on the principles of equal justice.
The two countries made the acknowledgment when Mr. Saadi Altumaizi, out-going Palestinian Ambassador to Ghana, paid a farewell call on President John Evans Atta Mills, at the Osu Castle.
President Mills commended Ghanaians for their desire to work towards peace despite the change in government.
He said Ghana also believed in peace in the Middle East, therefore the Palestinian issue must be resolved for the people to live in peace, and decisions should be based on justice, peace and recognition of the fundamental human rights of the people.
President Mills wished Mr. Altumaizi the best in his future endeavours and presented him a traditional wooden stool and a gift to his wife.
Mr. Altumaizi thanked the Government and people for their contribution towards the Palestinian peace process, and stressed the need for both countries to forge ahead in greater co-operation.
He presented an engraving depicting the city of Jerusalem to President Mills.
