Minister for Trade and Industry, Joe Baidoo Ansah says a proposal is in the offing for Ghana to organize the first ever world summit on investment.
The summit will be part of activities during the 12th United Nations Conference on Trade And Development, UNCTAD, Conference in Ghana.
The Trade Minister who was speaking at the media launch of the Conference scheduled for Accra next month, said the summit will bring together world business leaders and executives to dialogue on the core business of investment and how African countries can attract such investment.
Baidoo Ansah said Ghana’s hosting of the conference will mark a turning point in the history of UNCTAD, given the amount of effective planning ahead of the conference
“Our Ministry has since March 2006, constituted 20 task-teams with a general coordination committee as well as a secretariat to undertake specific activities that will cover all conceivable aspects of the organisation of the conference. There is also an inter-ministerial committee with oversight responsibility for the conference…”
He said temporary structures to host the conference, still under construction, will be completed in time.
The head of Inter-governmental Affairs and Outreach Service at the UNCTAD Secretariat, Jo Elizabeth Butler said the Ghanaian Media should take advantage of the conference to explore the various benefits Ghana stands to gain from the conference.
