The Ghana Post office has begun renovation of its Accra North branch near Kwame Nkrumah Circle to integrate 20 government service operations on a single electronic platform.
The agencies include Ghana Post, Electricity Company of Ghana, Ghana Water Company Limited, DVLA, and the Ghana Police Services.
Known as the One Stop Service Centre, the agencies will be connected to a single platform to enable the public access their services without any difficulties.
The estimated cost is 1.3 million Ghana Cedis.
Minister of Communications Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, told journalists the project is part of government’s program to diversify the operations of postal services in Ghana.
“Ghana has injected as much as five million Ghana cedis for the computerisation of Ghana Post, and this include all the outlets that we have. Because assuming that you send your parcel to Nakpanduri and there is a postal outlet there that’s supposed to deliver that particular parcel, right from the point where you dispatch the item from Accra, it should be possible for your to send a message via the internet to Nakpanduri that; this item it’s on its way coming, it’s destined to this (particular house number) person, for her to come and pick the item on a particular day.”
Dr. Omane-Boamah said optic fibres are being laid on the eastern corridor road to facilitate easy communication on that particular road.
He was confident the deadline set for the completion of the project will be met by the contractors, Huawei.
Ghana Post District Director for Accra North Alexandra Asare says the system will take care of the filing of old documents for safe keeping.
The project is expected to be completed in the second week of February next year.
