The Black Stars of Ghana will travel to the United Kingdom this summer to take on Wales in an international friendly at the Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday, June 2.

The encounter will mark the first time Wales host African opposition on home soil, adding extra significance to the fixture for both nations. Kick-off time is yet to be confirmed.

For Ghana, the game forms part of preparations ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America. The Black Stars have already secured qualification for the tournament and have been drawn in a challenging group alongside England, Croatia and Panama.

The June friendly is expected to offer head coach Otto Addo another opportunity to fine-tune his squad against European opposition as Ghana intensifies its build-up to the global showpiece.

Wales, led by former Liverpool forward Craig Bellamy, is still chasing their own World Cup dream. They face Bosnia and Herzegovina in a play-off on March 26, with the winner set to host either Italy or Northern Ireland five days later for a place at the tournament.

Interestingly, Wales’ only previous match against African opposition came in 1998 when they suffered a 4-0 defeat to Tunisia in a friendly. Bellamy featured in that game as a forward.

The Welsh side will be wary of the threat posed by Ghana’s attacking options, including Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo, who previously had a loan spell at Newport County.

The clash against Wales is one of two international friendlies scheduled for Ghana in June, as preparations gather momentum ahead of the World Cup.
