Frozen pitches have led to the delay of Ghana’s training session on Thursday in Rustenburg.
The Black Stars were expected to train this morning at 9:30am at the Mogwase Stadium in the north of Rustenburg but were informed by FIFA officials that the pitches was frozen and had to be cleared up before use.
According to Vice President of the Ghana Football Association, Fred Pappoe, the pitch should thaw out in time and be ready for training at 11:00am.
“We were informed early this morning that we had to reschedule the training time due to the freezing conditions. The pitch at the Mogwase Stadium is frozen and it’s been cleared. But training would still go ahead today as the pitch would be ready for use at 11:00am,” Fred Pappoe said.
Temperatures in the North-West Province, here in Rustenburg have dropped to as low as -5 C minimum with the wintry conditions over the last couple of days affecting flights and team plans.
On Wednesday, group D members Germany and Serbia were prohibited from training at the World Cup venue in Port Elizabeth before their match because the pitch had been damaged by heavy rain over the past two days.
Ghana will have a closed training session today as Milovan Rajevac prepares the team for Saturday’s Group D clash against Australia at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg.
