Two other female athletes however could not make it to the women’s final. Gyamani Beatrice clocked a time of 11.99 to place third in heat 1 which was also won by Osayomi Uludamola.
Flings Owusu Agyapong also came fourth in heat 3 with 11.88 seconds, the race was won by another Nigerian Okagbare with a time of 11.29 seconds.
Speaking to MultiTV at the finish line, veteran sprinter Aziz Zakari said he was in the best frame of mind and ready to win medals for Ghana.
Vida Anim on her part said she was trying to work on her starting since it had not been her best in the competition.
Tim Abeyie said he hadn’t run the 100 metres in a long time but was happy to get the race out of the way.
"The challenging thing was the nerves at the start because as I said I was a bit rusty and trying to get back into rhythm" he said.
The athletes have also promised a good showing at the 4X4 relay competition scheduled for Thursday.
