Chairman of the Club Licensing Committee, Dr. Kwame Baah Nuakoh has alleged that some coaches in Ghana’s Premier and Division One Leagues, are using fake CAF certificates.
Baah Nuakoh who made the startling revelation on Accra-based Sporty FM, disclosed that his outfit was notified by the Ghana Football Association. Â
‘‘We were informed by the technical directorate of the GFA that there are a lot of fake CAF certificates in circulation. People are doctoring CAF licenses and getting employment.’’
He raised concerns about the due diligence done by the clubs before hiring such coaches and their potential culpability.
‘‘So the question is, do the employers know? Because it is only the employers who put these certificates into the system. The person does not have access to the application system so it will be an official of the club.’’
Baah Nuakoh further indicated that some are passing off certificates of participation as actual coaching licenses.
‘‘Some of them are holding certificates of participation in licensing courses, (but) does not mean that they have a license. So you might have attended a licensing course, but maybe you did not pass, so you have a certificate of participation but maybe you do not have a license (to coach).
‘‘We are seeing a lot of that from Premier (League) to Division One (League).’’
The Club Licensing Committee was set up by the GFA to vet the license application of clubs to ensure compliance with legal, administrative, finance, technical, medical and security requirements of the provisions of the GFA Statutes and the GFA Club Licensing Regulations before issuing licenses to clubs to fully partake in GFA sanctioned competitions.
However, Baah Nuakoh has now claimed that no club was issued a license to operate last year.
