The Minister of Health, Major (rtd) Courage Quashigah says doctors in Ghana are paid very high salaries.
According to the minister, doctors in Ghana are the second best paid on the continent after South Africa.
Major Quashigah was addressing journalists at the government instituted weekly meet the press series in Accra.
He said the replacement of the Additional Duty Hours Allowance (ADHA) with the Health Workers’ Salary Structure (HWSS) would even improve the pay packet and ensure fairness in the health sector.
The Minister’s statement comes in the wake of complaints about unapproved deductions from the salaries of doctors.
He told the news conference that brain drain, which used to be the bane of the sector has been considerably reduced and more health workers are beginning to show interest in joining the public sector.
