Communication specialist and gender advocate Mercy Adjabeng has commended the Ghanaian media for its significant progress in recent years, despite facing numerous challenges.
Speaking on the JoyNews AM Show on December 27, she shared her reflections on the media’s performance over the years, stating, “I think the media has done well.”
She acknowledged the difficult environment in which the media operates, including limitations and attacks on journalists, but praised its ability to innovate and adapt.
“The media has done well, regardless of the few infractions,” she remarked, stressing the sector’s resilience.
Mrs Adjabeng highlighted election coverage as a notable area of improvement.
“If you look at the election coverage, I think the media has done well,” she said, commending journalists for their role in providing accurate and comprehensive reporting during elections.
While noting that there have been occasional setbacks, Mrs. Adjabeng pointed out that the media’s overall performance has been impressive, considering the circumstances.
“There have been a few hitches, but considering the environment we’ve operated in—marked by challenges, limitations, and attacks on media professionals—I still think the media has done well,” she stated.
She encouraged further growth, acknowledging that while progress has been made, there is always room for improvement.
“The media has shown resilience and progress, but we can do more to strengthen the industry and build on its successes,” she concluded.
Despite the challenges, Mrs. Adjabeng remains optimistic about the future of Ghana’s media, confident that continued development and excellence are within reach.
