Ghanaian Physicians and other healthcare professionals begin their annual meeting under the aegis of the Ghana Physicians and Surgeons Foundation of North America (GPSF) on Thursday to hear academic presentations.
The 6th Annual African Health Summit will take place at the Century Centre Marriott Hotel, Atlanta, from April 18-20, a statement from the GPSF said.
It said the event would be concluded with a Gala Dance at which a number of Physicians who had made significant contributions to medical education and practice globally and in Ghana would be recognized.
Recipients would include Dr. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei, orthopedic and spine specialist, Dr. Lewis Roberts of the Mayo School of Medicine and Dr. Paul King an African-American Atlanta Neurosurgeon who would be honoured for his work in Ghana.
The GPSF was established to support the mission of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons (GCPS) in providing quality residency training at various accredited sites in Ghana.
It also serves as an advocacy group to educate the general public about numerous health care issues in Ghana and Africa.
The foundation supports all non-profit health initiatives in Ghana by Ghanaian health professionals in North America.
The GCPS was established by an Act of Parliament in 2002 to provide quality postgraduate training in Medicine in Ghana.
Currently the College has local and external faculties in all specialties and there are over 300 residents at various stages of training in various specialties under the aegis of the GCPS.
All Specialists Physicians overseas are enjoined to become Fellows of the GCPS and join their colleagues in shaping medical education and health policy in Ghana.Source: GNA
