The Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is confident that Ghanaians will fully appreciate the party's efforts and achievements when the political dust settles.
Richard Ahiagbah speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on Wednesday, February 18, stated that the NPP is committed to transparency and accountability, rejecting claims of evading scrutiny.
“We [the NPP] have no record of running away. We’ll be here. We’ll deal with the issues here,” MrAhiagbah stated.
“It was the NDC members who ran away. My own sister Sedinam Tamakloe disappeared. She was tried in absentia, but she ought to be here. Our party doesn’t have any history of our officials running away.”
Addressing concerns over the party’s accountability as it prepares to win power in the 2028 elections, Mr Ahiagbah said there is a strong commitment within the NPP to answer for its stewardship.
“Our preoccupation is how we get our party situated and contest the 2028 election. Matters to do with accountability—our people will be here to answer the questions,” he asserted.
Richard Ahiagbah revealed that the former president of the NPP has personally directed party officials to be available and account for their actions in office.
“In fact, I don’t know if I can tell you this, but there’s an effective commitment right from the former president himself. He has given a directive to ensure that our people are available to do that.
"I just don’t want to go into the details of what he said, but there is that disposition from the former president—an indication to stay and make sure you account for your stewardship.”
Defending the NPP’s record over the past eight years, Ahiagbah remained optimistic that the party’s work will be recognized in due time.
“We came to do the best we can. And I believe that when the dust settles, Ghana will see what we have done for the eight years,” he concluded.
