Ashanti Region Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Samuel Pyne, has said Ghanaians will not give back power to John Mahama in the next election.
He said John Mahama’s administration was characterised by power outages, awarding dubious contracts and mismanagement of the economy, driving the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from government.
His comments come on the back of Mahama’s call on Ghanaians to give him a second chance to restore hope to them.
Speaking on Adom FM’s current affairs show Burning Issues on Wednesday, October 30, 2019, Mr. Pyne said: “Ghanaians do not have a short memory like he [John Mahama] said to forget what the NDC took us through in their eight years for us to bring them back to power.”
During the launch of the NDC manifesto Committee, the flagbearer of the party said he has learned his lessons and wants Ghanaians to bring him back to give them hope.
He said based on his experience and the useful lessons he has learned as President, he is the best person to take Ghana to the “promised land”.
“We are coming to give you hope and address your concerns and challenges because we feel your suffering and we believe in opportunity for all, not just a few as we are witnessing today,” Mr Mahama said on Wednesday, October 23 at the inauguration of the NDC’s manifesto committee in Accra.
The NDC leader also urged the manifesto team to do a thorough job that will provide policies which will address the “increasing hardship inflicted on Ghanaians”.
He also assured Ghanaians that the manifesto, when completed, will provide quality policies based on research from across the country to serve the needs of the people.
“It will be a manifesto that will be the conclusion of a long, detailed consultative process involving broad interactions with our people, incorporating their concerns, their hopes and their aspirations.
But Sam Pyne thinks the former President wants another opportunity to come and continue the poor leadership his administration put Ghanaians through during the eight-year rule.
Meanwhile, a member of the NDC communication team, Eric Adjei, speaking on the same show said: “John Mahama will come back on a rescue mission to deliver Ghanaians for the hardship the NPP government is putting them through”.
He accused the NPP government of neglecting many of the initiatives started by the NDC to make life unbearable.
“Over 300 road contracts have been cancelled, tuition fees for trained nurses have been overly increased to give back to them as allowance, fertilizers that were given to cocoa farmers for free are being sold to them and this is why Mahama is coming on a rescue mission,” he said.
