The Volta Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has asserted that the country’s economy would recover from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic and the Ukraine-Russia war.
Makafui Woanyah said that Ghana would witness transformation in the last two years of the Akufo-Addo-led-government’s second term, as the government is determined to introduce policies and programs to better the lives of Ghanaians.
Mr. Woanyah was speaking at the annual new year party he organized for NPP Regional and Constituency Executives in Sogakofe.
He indicated that the reduction in fuel price, and appreciation of the Cedi in December 2022, are indications that “things will be better this year”.
"By the grace of God and the hard work of the NPP government, the sleepless nights of the NPP government, things are changing for the better. I want to assure you that this year is full of a lot of goodies, and the signals are there for us to see", he said.
Mr. Woanyah ridiculed criticisms by the opposition National Democratic Congress which he said seeks to present gloomy forecasts about the country’s economy.
“The opposition is praying for things to go bad in Ghana so that they can leverage on that to come to power. But I can assure you that these two years, especially this year, though things will be a little difficult, we will surmount them all," he stressed.
He, however, indicated that irrespective of the current economic crisis, government continues to deliver on its mandate unabated and outlined some achievements of the NPP within the last 6 years in power.
He listed the Eastern Corridor Roads, Agenda 111, Ho-Sokode dual carriage road, UHAS-Titrinu bypass, the 1 District - 1 Factory initiative, Free SHS, digitization of the economy and the revival of the NHIS and completion of abandoned projects as initiatives implemented by the party.

Mr. Woanyah stated that the NPP are better managers of the country’s resources and better in governance compared to the opposition NDC.
“You will agree with me that it is only the NPP government that could manage this country and manage the resources very well.
"We need to have hope and pray with the government, the direction the government is going, that 2024 we will all win this election and continue to develop Ghana", he emphasized.
Mr. Woanyah used the opportunity to admonish his colleague patriots to ensure the upcoming presidential candidate race does not affect the unity of the party.
The annual new year party provided a platform for members of the NPP to make merry, share ideas and strategies towards retaining power in 2024.
