Portsmouth administrator Andrew Andronikou claims Kevin-Prince Boateng has dented his hopes of a move to Germany as a result of his controversial tackle on Michael Ballack.
Boateng has found himself public enemy No.1 in Germany after his tackle on Ballack in the FA Cup final against Chelsea ruled the Germany captain out of this month’s World Cup.
Boateng went as far as issuing a public apology after coming under fire in Germany and his challenge has seen suitors from the Bundesliga cool their interest in the midfielder.
Andronikou revealed a couple of German sides were keen on signing the German-born Ghanaian international before the FA Cup final, but have dropped their interest since the incident with Ballack.
“Boateng was being hawked around Germany – and it has since cooled after that particular tackle,” Andronikou told The News.
“We had a meeting with two German clubs before the Cup final. Well, they are not ringing any more.
“I certainly believe that is down to Boateng’s tackle.
“Football is governed by emotion and opinion and that can change overnight. It seems to have happened with this player.
“I remember quite vividly when he first came to me talking about supposed interest in moving back to Germany a few months ago.
“That has certainly changed from his point of view – and it would appear from German clubs.”
