President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Albert Dwunfour has defended the Association's decision to blacklist politicians who assault journalists.
The move, Mr Dwumfour said, is already making gains.
Fisheries Minister Hawa Koomson, the GJA President said, has appealed to the GJA to reconsider its decision to blacklist her.
This plea comes after the GJA directed journalists to refrain from covering any activities involving the Awutu Senya East MP, following an alleged attack on a journalist during the NPP’s parliamentary aspirants’ vetting in Cape Coast.
Earlier this week, the Chairman of the National Media Commission (NMC), Yaw Boadu Ayeboafoh disagreed with the GJA's decision to blacklist people who were alleged to have assaulted journalists while in the line of duty.
He said the added for boycott would not be productive or functional to the public interest.
But speaking on PM Express, the GJA president stated that the blacklisting has started yielding results.
He further explained that Hawa Koomson had reached out to him for a truce.
"We started with Hawa Koomson and in less than a week, she reached out to call for a truce...She even demonstrated her preparedness and readiness to cooperate with the GJA to bring the perpetrators to book," he added on Thursday, February 15.
