Lawyer Mohammed Sahnoon, a candidate for the general secretary position in the upcoming Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), has stated the need for good governance.
Sahnoon, who currently heads the Ghana Cycling Association, is contesting for the important seat with Rev. Richmond Quarcoo.
In an interview on the Joy Sports Link on Saturday, Sahnoon hammered on the need to adhere to rules in the association and ensure a free flow of information.
“It has been interesting interacting with the federation and delegates. We have delivered the necessary information to them that there is the need to have a proper change, a positive change in the governance of the Olympic Committee. The message we are spreading is good governance and progress. I stand for order and adherence to rules,” he told Nathaniel Attoh.
“The IOC is what it is because they adhere to statutes and they respect their bye laws. It is my drive that at all times these rules are respected because that will strengthen the structures. Whatever committees we establish in the GOC should be made to work and that is where I come in as the secretary general. The role is more of an interface between the executives and core members of the GOC. There must be free flow of information.”
He also went on to declare his support for current GOC president Ben Nunoo Mensah.
“From where I come from, the new team is the green team which I belong to and that is the Ben Nunoo Mensah team. If you look at the package from the other side, it is nothing new. Akpokavi has been at the helm with Professor Duodu since 2011.”
He then mentioned the need to get some sponsors for the committee.
“We are challenged and we need to address it strategically. We are looking to get the necessary sponsorship to support our federation.”
The election will take place on 15th March 2021.
