Chair of the National Media Commission (NMC) Kabral Blay Amihere says judges of Supreme Court hearing an Election Petition should be mindful that their verdict on Thursday would also be judged by God. He was speaking on media reportage and responsibility after the Supreme Court verdict. It was a forum organised by the Ghana Journalist Association at the International Press center Monday. A nine-member panel of justices of the Supreme Court is set to give a crucial ruling on Thursday 29th August 2013. This court hearing became necessary after three Petitioners from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) went to court alleging fraud in the 2012 December elections. The results were declared by the Electoral Commission on 10th December 2012 to have been won by John Mahama of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC). Joynews' Hannah Odame reports that Kabral Blay Amihere reminded the judges that ultimately they will also be judged by God. This view should be taken into consideration while giving out their decisions, he said. The NMC Chairman encouraged the judges to give a free and fair ruling and muster the courage to deliver their verdict without fear or favour just as God will also judge them one day. Ambassador Blay also said the August 29th verdict will be an ultimate test of the ability of the losing party to manage their emotions.
