The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has pledged the introduction of a robust export control and traceability system for Ghana’s diamond resources.
According to him, the state agency has undertaken deliberate reforms to strengthen governance across the diamond value chain to ensure the country’s diamonds remain conflict-free and responsibly sourced.
Speaking during the review visit of the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme in Accra, Mr Gyamfi said the Ghana Gold Board would continue to collaborate with allied regulatory institutions to ensure effective oversight of the sector.
These include the Ghana Revenue Authority, the Minerals Commission and various law enforcement agencies.
“Over the years, our national KPC scheme framework has been anchored on strong inter-agency coordination, which brings together the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and its allied agencies like the Minerals Commission; our regulatory bodies, such as the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority; law enforcement agencies; and industry stakeholders,” he said.
“Through this collaborative approach, we continue to uphold robust export controls, traceability systems and verification mechanisms to ensure our diamonds remain conflict-free and responsibly sourced,” he added.
Mr Gyamfi also highlighted a number of reforms introduced by Ghana to improve oversight within the diamond value chain.
“In recent years, Ghana has undertaken deliberate reforms to further strengthen governance across the diamond value chain. These include improvements in inspection and verification mechanisms, strengthening internal control systems, enhanced data management processes, and sustained capacity building for staff and frontline personnel,” he explained.
He noted that these measures demonstrate Ghana’s commitment to continuous improvement and responsiveness to global expectations in the responsible diamond trade.
The review programme forms part of efforts to assess Ghana’s progress in implementing the Kimberley Process standards and to provide a platform for constructive engagement and peer review.
