The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has issued a warning to individuals trading gold without a valid licence, stating that prosecutions will begin immediately after the final deadline of June 21, 2025.
The board made it clear that there will be no further extensions for obtaining licences, following an earlier grace period which extended the initial cut-off date from 21st May to 21st June 2025.
The Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi, made the announcement during a stakeholder engagement with the Chamber of Licensed Gold Buyers.
He called on the Chamber to support efforts to regulate and sanitise the sector, insisting that the government’s policy on gold trading compliance will be enforced without compromise.
“We should be able to sustain this for the betterment of our people. We are not going to relent on that, and anybody who becomes a stumbling block will be dealt with in accordance with the laws of Ghana.
"So, kindly encourage your members to play by the rules—apply for a licence, then you can trade in gold,” Mr Gyamfi urged.
In response, Kwaku Amoah, Chief Executive of the Chamber of Licensed Gold Buyers, expressed the group’s readiness to cooperate fully with GoldBod.
He underscored the need for compliance and called on members of the chamber to meet the registration deadline.
“This is the second time we have had an extension. For us, as a chamber, our advocacy goes on behalf of the GoldBod.
"We are into encouraging them to drive that force and urge all the members to register on or before 21st June 2025,” he stated.
