A 17-year-old female student who got stranded and thought she had found a "good Samaritan" ended up being defiled and abandoned to her fate in the bush near Kpassa.
Briefing the GNA, Mr. Sekyere Bruku, Deputy Superintendent of Police in charge of the Nkwanta district said the victim on April 4, this year was returning from school to Kpassa on vacation and became stranded at Damanko as there was no available vehicle for her to continue the journey.
He said Mbolinga Tadju, 28, a farmer approached the victim and told her to buy ¢20,000 worth of petrol into his vehicle to enable him to take her to Kpassa, to which the victim obliged.
Mr. Bruku said in the middle of the journey, Tadju branched into a nearby bush under the pretext of picking an item. He said about 50 metres from the main road, the suspect ordered the victim to alight and pushed her to the ground and threatened to kill her if she refused to have sex with him.
Mr. Bruku said Tadju struggled with the student and overpowered her, forcibly had sex with her after which he abandoned the victim in the bush.
He said Tadju absconded to Juanayiri in the Northern region after the act but was arrested upon a tip-off.
Mr. Bruku said the suspect was put before a Hohoe Circuit court presided over by Mr. S.S. Appiah, and was remanded to re-appear on July 3rd, this year.
