Mr James Krampah, an Assistant Director, at the Gomoa West District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service, has commended President John Evans Atta Mills for honouring the promises he made during the run-up to the 2008 general elections.The President, Mr Krampah said, promised school children free exercise books, free uniforms, enhanced capitation grant, enabling environment for learning and an extension of the School Feeding Programme to cover many school children.The Assistant director, who deputised for the District Director, Mrs Augusta Akyaa Sarpong, distributed school uniforms to the school children at Gomoa Dago.Confirming the promises, Mr Krampah said the free uniforms and the exercise books had been supplied, the Capitation Grant had been increased from GHC 30.00 to GHC 4.50, and schools under trees were being replaced with permanent buildings.He said government wants children to access quality education and that, it was incumbent on parents to ensure that their children were enrolled in schools.Mr Krampah urged parents to take very good care of the children, especially the girls, to prevent them from being victims of teenage pregnancy.Mr Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah, Gomoa West District Chief Executive, outlined some of the projects the government had completed in Dago within the past two years.They included the upgrading of the power supply from one phase to two phases, and the construction of a clinic and nurses quarters.The DCE said the perennial water problem facing the town would be a thing of the past when the Antseadze Water Treatment Plant, currently under construction, was completed in September 2011.He said as an interim measure, the assembly had acquired a water tanker to help solve the problem.Mr Samuel Addae, Town Secretary, who represented the chief said most of the citizens had deserted the town to settle elsewhere because of the water problem and commended the Assembly for procuring the tanker.He appealed to the government to rehabilitate the roads which connect the town to other communities.Mr Addae appealed to the DCE to get the Local Premix Committee to render accounts to the community.Rev. Adjei Annan, Assistant Headmaster of the school said there were no furniture for the over 300 children in Kindergarten (KG), with some of them carrying their stools from home to school.He appealed to the assembly to “put the final touches” on the six-unit pavilion, constructed for the school by the previous NDC government.He appealed for a computer laboratory and a library for the school to enhance teaching and learning of Information Communication Technology (ICT) and to inculcate a reading habit in the children.Ms Grace Abrokwah, Headmistress said the uniforms had come at the right time for the children, saying that, it would be used for Ghana’s 54th Independence Anniversary parade.Source: GNA
