Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has assured traders in the Ashanti Region of the government’s commitment to introducing policies that will increase access to education.
He gave the assurance on Tuesday after scores of traders in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi, stormed the premises of Hello FM, a local radio station to show support to him.
The Minister was at the media house to explain some of the government’s planned policies for next year as read in the 2022 budget by the Finance Minister.
According to the traders, several interventions by the government, such as the Free Senior High School policy, have made life easy for them.
A woman, who identified herself as a single parent and a second-hand cloth dealer said that Free SHS policy has created an opportunity for needy parents to have their wards educated.
“My second son, who is a beneficiary of Free Senior High School, completed SHS last year. My last daughter is in her second year at St. Louis SHS also benefitting from the policy. Thank you very much for the Free SHS policy, it has really been helpful," one of the traders who identified herself as Yaa Fosuah said.
Dr. Adutwum, who indicated that the gesture took him by surprise, said the government is exploring various avenues to make the life of Ghanaians better.
He assured them of the government's desire to continue coming out with many more initiatives to ensure that the nation will be at par with the rest of the world in terms of 21st century education standards.
He urged the traders to have hope in the government as it is working very hard to ensure that every facet of the economy is given the needed resources to enhance the development of the nation.
