The government will engage various drivers unions today to discuss possible adjustments in transport fares.
According to Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe, both parties have yet to make any formal proposals regarding an increase or otherwise.
The meeting has become necessary due to recent increases in key factors determining fare adjustments, including fuel prices and the cost of vehicle parts.
Speaking to journalists after a working visit to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) in Accra, the minister stated, “Unofficially, I have engaged the unions, and I can say they have been very cooperative. However, we haven’t reached any conclusions yet.

"We will be meeting them tomorrow as well, and after that, we can determine what charges should be applied for passengers. I can assure you that whatever decision we take will be beneficial to all parties.”
Since the government took office, fuel prices have increased, prompting calls from transport unions for fare adjustments.
