The Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has dispelled claims that government has touted the electronic transaction levy (e-levy) as the panacea for all the economic challenges the country is facing.
According to the Minister, such claims can only be made by members of the opposition National Democratic Congress.
Speaking on JoyNews' The Probe on Sunday, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah stated that government does not hail e-levy as the solution for its challenges.
"Nobody in government has said that without E-levy, we can't (make it). Quite recently, I heard our colleagues on the NDC side try to create an impression that government says e-levy is the solution to all our problems. Government has not said that."
Interacting with host, Emefa Apawu, the Ofoase-Ayirebi MP stressed that the government can only develop the country and address its many challenges by generating enough domestic revenue.
"If you are going to get to that 250 billion that pushes the envelope, we have to mobilize domestic resources. We have to be straight about that with everybody. It is the resources that will help us deliver."
Mr. Oppong Nkrumah reiterated that the proposed 1.75 per cent e-levy remains unchanged.
Despite the contention over the approval of the e-levy Bill, he is also hopeful that the Bill will be passed by Parliament when it resumes sitting.
