Government will today hold its major town hall meeting on the Electronic Transaction levy (E-Levy) pending approval.
The meeting, organised by the Ministry of Information, is aimed at educating members of the general public on the need to accept the implementation of the E-levy bill meant to widen government's tax net.
Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, Minister for Communication and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah and Deputy Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin are expected to speak at the exercise as well as take feedback and inputs from relevant stakeholders.
President Akufo-Addo took to Twitter to share a reminder of the event as well as seek support from the masses.
"E-levy for development. Ghana needs the E-levy," he communicated.

Prior to Thursday’s meeting, Ghana’s Presidency in a tweet mentioned a number of projects it will undertake with the revenue that would be raised from the electronic transaction levy.
"The E-levy will ensure that we have revenue to sustainably invest in entrepreneurship, youth employment, security, digital & road infrastructure.”
Government added that records show taxes collected so far have been used for some of its flagship initiatives that have positively impacted the lives of Ghanaians.
The E-levy is a new tax measure introduced by government in the 2022 Budget on basic transactions related to digital payments and electronic platform transactions.
This means a charge of 1.75% will apply to electronic transactions that are more than ¢100.00 on a daily basis (24 hours).
