A Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, Yaw Frimpong Addo has reiterated government’s commitment to providing the youth in agribusiness with the needed resources to scale up.
According to him, the youth hold the key to addressing major challenges to ensure food security. He was speaking at the Agricultural for Innovation for Africa Conference organized by the Kosmos Innovation Center.
With food inflation being a major contributor to the increase in general inflation, stakeholders in the agricultural sector have been deliberating on ways to develop and address some of the challenges bedeviling the sector.
The Agricultural for Innovation for Africa Conference focused on measures to advance food security through innovation and collaboration.
Delivering his keynote address, Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture Yaw Frimpong Addo said government is committed to supporting the youth with the needed resources to enhance food security in the country.
“Youth led startups and agri-MSMES are not just catalysts for economic growth, they’re vehicles for innovation that can redefine our approach to food security”.
“As a ministry, we are committed to the vision of a modernized agriculture culminating in a socially transformed economy and evident in food security, employment opportunities and reduced poverty”, he said.
The Country Director of Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa AGRA, Juliette Lampoh-Agroh added that Ghana needs to focus on cushioning local producers of food, while taking prudent steps to reduce importation.
She also indicated that challenges of young people in accessing capital can be addressed through innovative financing modules.
The stakeholders also called for intentional investments in the youth involved in agriculture to emhnce economic growth.
