A Deputy Minister of Information Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has made it clear that the government will not support any of the feuding sides in the Bawku conflict.
He said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government is on the side of peace and that any group that thinks it has the backing of the executive would be living in a fool’s paradise.
The government on Thursday promised to deal ruthlessly with those behind the scenes, fueling the conflict in the troubled Bawku township.
Some of these faceless people are believed to be opinion leaders both in and outside the town.
Thursday, Information Minister John Tia alleged that some of the people involved in escalating the conflict are in Accra, tending in a T-Shirt with the inscription “Original chiefs of Bawku” which he claimed was printed in Accra, as evidence.
He said these T-Shirts are sent all the way to Bawku, ostensibly to provoke ethnic sensibilities.
