Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, Deputy Minister of Energy has expressed government’s willingness to empower the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) financially to enhance its supply quality and the general stability in the distribution network. He said government was committed to ensuring sufficient and early funding of some major energy sector projects under the compact II Project of the Millennium Development Authority and that government was certain to tackle key challenges facing the energy sector and would also continue to facilitate regulatory issues that has a positive impact on the operations of the company. Alhaji Fuseinu said this during the ECG’s 9th National Best Employee Awards Ceremony during the weekend in Accra. The ceremony of theme “Cultivating a Culture of Higher Performance: The Role of Employees” rewarded deserving staff for exhibiting good performances to accelerate growth in the company. Alhaji Fuseini said cultivating the culture of high performance needed a lot of discipline in the rank and file of the company and that the unacceptable deeds of some of staff as exposed by Anas should serve as an alert to all to desist from unacceptable conduct that tarnishes the image of the company. “It behoves on you and I to salvage what is left of the image of the company by living to our core values and making a difference in whatever we do,” he said. He explained that the operation of ECG was strategic to national development since the image of the country to investor and tourists was very much dependent on power supply availability and reliability. He said the country needed quality power supply to feed industries to ensure accelerated economic growth. Alhaji Fuseini encouraged management of the company to be proactive and very innovative in ways of recouping the revenues belonging to the company. “Revenue leakages resulting from technical and purely commercial losses must be stemmed to improve on the company’s financial standing,” he added and admonished all staff to be focused and work as a team to drive performance and achieve the success of ECG. Mr William Hutton-Mensah, Acting Managing Director of ECG, said the event signified ECG’s deliberate endorsement of hard work and exemplary conduct as the way forward to change the company’s fortune. He a culture of high performance required that the performance of every staff was assessed and improved continually. “It further demands that high performing individuals are identified and rewarded, while habitual underperformers are sanctioned”, he said. He said it was a fact that higher performance was a key to ECG because it was through that the company achieves its mission to provide quality, safe and reliable electricity service to facilitate the socio-economic development of the country. He called on employees to stand up and be counted in the quest to transform the company by observing the principles of effective performance management. He pledged ECG’s commitment to explore and deploy good customer care systems to satisfy customers to the best of the it’s ability.
