The Fisheries Commission has disclosed that government is set to release a comprehensive report on the mass dead fishes that washed ashore in parts of the country by the close of this week.
Speaking on Accra-based Citi FM, the Commission’s Executive Director, Michael Arthur Dadzie stated that an inter-agency investigation was launched after the incident were recorded in the Greater Accra and Western Regions.
He stated that although preliminary findings attributed the fish mortality to stress factors, subsequent investigations have been conducted, and results will be made available when the sector Minister, Mavis Hawa Koomson, addresses the nation in the coming days.

According to him, all the sectorial agencies collaborated in putting together the comprehensive report. “The outcome of investigations will be announced by the sector minister during her press briefing this week.
"The collaborators (FDA, NADMO, EPA) all met to coordinate and harmonise our findings, and that is what the Minister will release during the press briefing.”
On Sunday, April 4, 2021, tons of fish washed ashore at Osu beach in the Greater Accra Region, attracting many residents who picked them up either for consumption or for sale.
Similarly, some 60 dead dolphins were sighted at the shores of Axim-Bewire in the Nzema East Municipality of the Western Region.
Subsequently, officers from the Fish Health Unit and the Scientific Survey Division of the Fisheries Commission were dispatched to the scenes to take samples for testing.
The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has cautioned the citizenry not to consume the fish, indicating that they are “unwholesome”.
Following the tests, it was confirmed that no incident was recorded as a result of the consumption.
